Roosevelt Collier joins The Groove Orient on stage for its cover of "Whipping Post" by The Allman Brothers |
A chance to see Suwannee Music Park differently
If you don’t already know how I feel about Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, let me tell you now: I absolutely love that place. The setting, the people, the vibes — I always feel at home when I’m there.
On Saturday, June 27, I made it out to Roosevelt Collier’s Suwannee Getdown — one of two happening this summer — for the second night of performances. On both nights, local acts took the stage before closing sets by The Roosevelt Collier Trio.
Saturday featured Post Pluto (Pensacola), The Groove Orient (Orlando), and Squeedlepuss (Jacksonville) on the Music Hall stage. Each band gave its all to the enthusiastic fans who'd gathered for a chance to enjoy the park a bit more intimately than is possible during a larger festival like AURA or Purple Hatter’s Ball.
It was a treat to hear the great music going in the Music Hall, and then be able to step outside to the calm and quiet of a less populated Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. On Sunday, I made time to visit the river and explore some trails outside the venue before heading home. I rarely get to do this when I’m covering other events, so I was grateful for the chance to see more of what this amazing park has to offer.

If you’d like the chance to experience Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in a more laid-back way, you can check out the next Getdown happening at the end of July, or the first ever Reunion festival in late August.
